The Holy Spirit & Hope

There's a lot of terrible stuff happening in our world. Here's some hope. Here are some small stories of what God is doing through His Spirit.

On Wednesday we had another night of Breaking Bread, preceded by our 'Family Time' of hang out and devotions. There were three of us that were sort of running the show, with the Breaking Bread director. She had to leave for a family emergency in Wisconsin and one of the other guys helping out, who was going to lead devotions, decided earlier this week that he wasn't going to be doing this anymore. That left myself and our other volunteer by ourselves. I took devotions and read the story of the friends who bring their paralytic buddy to Jesus via a hole in the roof. It sparked GREAT conversation. Guys telling stories of God getting them off drug addictions, stories of when God provided for them, and so on. At dinner we raffled off 12 24hr CTA passes. Two people that 'won' them had asked the guy that runs the kitchen earlier for a pass, one that they really needed to get to the hospital for some tests. God provided through our raffle. It was pretty cool.

Tonight I was coming home on CTA from the north side on the red line. I usually transfer at Jackson to the Pink line on the south side of the loop. For some reason, I felt that the Spirit was telling me to transfer at Lake, take the Green line to Ashland, and then get the Pink from there. I did, keeping my eyes and ears open to see if there was a 'reason'. The Green line took a while, but Emily called while I was waiting. She was in Texas visiting friends and if I wouldn't have picked up would have been hard to talk to later tonight. I thought, "Was this the reason for the Green line?" I would have still been underground when she called an not have been able to pick up. Then, when the Green line did come there was a women that told me a story of 16 years ago when the Green line when off track, at a 45 degree angle resting up against the building next to the track. She told me about the pin in her hand to this day and what she went through that day. It sounded far fetched, but I took her at her word, and then transfered to the Pink line. It was interesting to think if either of those things, Emily's call or the woman's story which wouldn't have happened if I didn't transfer, were somehow meant to happen.

This seems like a jumbled post. Hopefully it makes some sense. it's late and it has been a long week. Peace
