Reading

Horror
I have recently found out about H.P. Lovecraft, the horror novelist of the early twentieth century.  He is known by many as the Stephen King of the early part of the century, a.k.a. he wrote a lot of super popular horror fiction (or non-fiction if you are one of the crazy followers).  To be honest, I found out about this through looking at Munchkin games, one of which is Munchkin Cthulhu.  I had NO IDEA what that was, so I went to Wikipedia.  Cthulhu is one of the crazy characters that Lovecraft cooked up.  So, I've begun to read some of his stuff.  It's pretty horrifying, some time travel, super ancient creatures, etc.  If you're a Lovecraft reader, let me know what I should read.

Benedict
On a completely related note, I read through the Benedictine Psalmody last week.  It went really well, a lot better than I thought it would.  When I read the selected chapters at the appointed hours, or close to it, it was surprisingly simple.  It was nice to have a job where not only do I work 30 hours a week, but also in a relaxed atmosphere where I could stop and read some Psalms.  Since then, I have decided to embark on the Uber Bible Reading Plan (shoutout to DC - you better comment now!).  It's basically a revised Psalmody combined with others readings in the OT and NT.  I'm working on getting it all up on a Goggle calendar, along with the Benedictine Psalmody and Daily Office, to assist those who would like to read along in any way.

Chicago
I checked out a few Chicago history books from our local library.  I figured, I've lived here for almost two years now and don't know a lot of Chicago history.  Now, I realize that the history that I learned in school was quite biased, from a very Manifest Destiny American point of view.  However, the more I read and hear about the more I am astonished at how HORRIBLE our history is.  Chicago is around because we killed Indians, forced them off their land, and did horrible things, just like the rest of America.  The "Father of Chicago" wasn't actually the first historical resident, he was the first historical, WHITE resident.  Stupid white historians.

We have a lot of reconciliation to deal with if we ever want to really move forward as a nation.

LOST
Ok, so it isn't reading, it's watching.  I don't care.  I just watched last night's LOST.  IT BLEW MY MIND.  I won't write any details here though.  I LOVE LOST.

Peace,

Okay, fine. I will comment. :)

Thanks for sharing the Benedictine Psalmody. It's been pretty awesome going through that this week. I'm looking forward to jumping into the Uber Bible Reading plan next week.

And LOST blew my mind as well. I'm really looking forward to next week.
