Monks and the Web

Today was my day off.  Although the hardest thing about working at a church to adjust to has been working every Sunday and sometimes Saturdays, the nice thing is having a day off in the middle of the week.  Thursdays are that day for me.  After a night at Breaking Bread until 9pm, heading home and chilling out, it's nice to sleep in a bit more and have a free day.

Benedict
I just finished my first quick read through the Rule of St. Benedict.  This coincides with my 3rd day in a row of following the Daily Office in my BoCP.  I'm reading another book St. Benedict's Toolbox as well.  It walks through the Rule and gives some tools along the way of how to live out the Rule.  Overall, I like it.  The idea of trying to live out this Rule, keeping Christ as absolutely central to everything I do throughout the day, is something great to strive for.

Benedictine Monks have the advantage of living in a monastery with other monks in a community specifically devoted to this very thing.  I, however, don't live with a monk.  I live with a beautiful wife.  I think that the biggest part of working out what living the Rule will be is first translating a lot of it to 21st Century context and then to a non-Monastery life.  Second, it will be figuring out who/where my community is that I live it out with, or in the presence of.  This blog and the wonderful Web will probably be a part of that.

Blogs
I discovered Google Reader today, thanks to Mike.  What a wonderful thing.  I am now following all my friends that have blogs, some news, a few recipe blogs, and other general col stuff.  If your blog doesn't appear on the right hand column of mine, then I'm probably not following it.  Inform me, and I'll join in.

Peace,
